Macro

See which major currencies are strong or weak, how gold, oil, the dollar and US indices are moving, and a bias for each currency, all from your broker's own candles.

Macro ranks the eight major currencies, checks the move against other markets, and gives each currency a bias. Everything is worked out from your broker’s closed one-hour candles. If a symbol has no history yet, its cell stays empty rather than filled with a guess.

Before you start

Macro needs an active trading account connected through MetaApi. Without one, the page shows “No trading account yet” and a Connect an account button. See Connect a trading account.

When the page is open, it fetches new candles from your broker straight away and then every five minutes while the tab is visible. The first fetch after you connect an account can take a few minutes.

If you have more than one active account, pick which one supplies the prices with Data account at the top of the page. Brokers name symbols differently, and some don’t offer every market, so results can differ slightly between accounts.

Currency strength

Currency strength scores USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD, NZD, CAD and CHF from 0 (weakest) to 100 (strongest). Each score blends how the currency ranked over the last hour, four hours and day, with the daily move counting most. The bar grows right of the centre line for scores above 50 and left of it for scores below.

A dash means the blend is incomplete. Hover over it to see which pair is still missing history.

Cross-asset confirmation

Cross-asset confirmation shows the US Dollar, Gold, Oil, the S&P 500, the Nasdaq 100 and the Dow 30. Each row shows the percentage change over 1h, 4h, 1d and 1w, and the Last price.

  • “Not offered by this broker” means your broker has no matching symbol.
  • “derived from USD strength” appears on the US Dollar row when your broker has no dollar index. The row then follows the dollar’s strength score instead.
  • “Awaiting first fetch…” clears after the next refresh.

Bias

Each currency gets a card marked Bullish, Bearish or Neutral.

  • A currency is Neutral when its strength score is within 10 points of 50. Its card shows a conviction of 0 and the score.
  • Otherwise the card shows Conviction out of 100. Conviction rises the further the score is from 50, and falls when the hour, four-hour, day and week moves disagree with each other.
  • The lines under the meter show the reasons, for example the currency’s daily strength rank and how many lookbacks point the same way.

A card marked Awaiting data has no bias until every pair in its blend has history.

Notices at the top of the page

  • “Markets look closed” appears when the newest closed candle is more than two hours old, for example at the weekend. The page shows the last prices and when they’re from.
  • “Refreshing from your broker…” shows while a fetch is running.
  • If a fetch fails, the page keeps the last saved candles and tries again automatically.

At the bottom, the Roadmap section lists areas marked Planned that aren’t in the app yet, such as live news and an economic calendar.

The dashboard’s Macro lane shows the same strength ranking and bias in a smaller form. See Dashboard.
